Flash Bully and Some Design

During Pre-production class it was my job to create a turnaround, expressions and action poses for this character.


All were done in flash with the exception of this one below which was done in photoshop. We had time restraints and the flash software had a tendency to crash when I worked on this set.

Here's something I really enjoyed doing in design class. We worked with a monochromatic color scheme to create an image. We were told to use magazine cut outs. Imagine me trying to find all that pink!

My Corporate Identity

The namesake for my blog here. Hip Square Studios! For one of my final classes we were to come up with our own logo and design our deliverables around them. Here are a few. I'm still revising them to be better. Also, the colors are being adjusted better for print-- as they are still pretty dull.

Valentines day Illustration

A gift. Looks like vector, yes? Surprise, it's not! I've been tinkering with contrast as of late and wanted to play with the idea of love and beauty. I sold a few prints at a nearby convention and it did pretty well.

Some old layouts

For the heck of it I found some old layouts I did for class a while long ago. I lost a few of my files and was just stuck with some crappy pictures I'd took. When I unpack my portfolio again I'll be sure to update with better photos so I apologize for such shody images and crops. These were all printed and matted. I wouldn't bother zooming in honestly!

At the beginning of the class we were all given a letter of the semitic alphabet to research and mine happened to be Waw.





This one is a simple logo we had to do a progression of. It's a snail, created in Adobe Illustrator. I can do much better now.

Some illustrations!

Here are some illustrations based on some of the characters that were created from the character sheets in my first post. They were based on seasons. Right now they are only line drawings and were meant to only be for a coloring book. My professor insisted I color them so I will update them within two weeks.




Also, here are a few characters that were based on a short story concept. They are middle schoolers who are peer mediators. It was something I feel that I could really relate with having experienced them in my younger years. And let's not forget about the safety patrol!


Here's a work in progress of a character I hope to get a turn around of soon. I know most usually start with a front view but this 3/4th view gives me a good idea of the type of stance and attitude I'd like to get across. I know it's not like my other work but it's there to show I can have variety in what I do. Alot of details are missing for now like fur and teeth, and some perspective issues on the feet needs to be fixed. But we'll see how this turns out!




Edit: Thought I'd add some illustrations that I did in class a few months ago. You can really see the difference in line and contrast. I wanted to try different things and see what worked as far as giving off atmosphere, balance and mood.

First post!

Just wanted to put up a few of my works to be seen for portfolio purposes until I get my website up and running. I'm thinking dreamweaver because of it's ability to switch from html to graphics layout. But flash might just be where it's at for now.
